Our business is selling, rebuilding and upgrading H-pattern racing transmissions and 6XD Sequentials. We repair and rebuild in-house in NL and stock a large amount of upgraded parts. When it comes to gearboxes, everyone has an opinion. Some people prefer sequentials, some people like roadcar style gearboxes with a shortshifter, some people like 8HP adapted transmissions.
At Einzel, we are into solutions. We are not into selling problems. Why ? We have a sales team of 5, and we cannot afford to lose 50-60 hours per month solving problems. Simple as that. We want products that over overkill for our application. Clients are not looking to be a guinea pig or test monkey for cowboy transmission companies.
You don't have to understand every little thing about gearbox engineering to form an opinion. Just look at some facts :
The H-pattern 4-speed was developed based on the Muncie-4 speed and Ford Top Loader roadcar transmissions. These gearboxes were fitted behind powerful, high torque engines from the 60's, before any oil crisis cut engines down. We're talking 5-600Nm heavy cars that were abused every day. 5.7 to 7.2 liter torque monsters.
Where are these cars sold? In America. What does America have a lot of? Drag strips. So every little town in every state had guys running down the drag strip, a sticky surface that would pull the flip flops from your feet if you walked on it. On top of that, they ran crazy big sticky tires that even lifted up the front of the car. And guess what? People did that in thousands of towns, for years. NASCAR also ran any version of the Muncie and G-Force as end-all solution.
We all know torque is what kills a trans, followed by RPM .. The G-Force is a direct , 40 year development based on an already strong roadcar transmission. People started going over 1000hp , breaking Muncies, then Richmonds, and finally brands like G-force brought the reliability. Improving the casing by making it thick and better aluminum alloys, strong main and countershafts, beefy gears and dogs, needle bearings and tail bearings, 26-29 spline inputs, shifters you could move with your foot, and ofcourse correct ratio's. They also accounted for high rpm, we run G-forces up to 9000 rpm for years.
Luckily, most American gearboxes have the same dimensions, regardless of which car they came in. The legendary Muncie style gearbox has a separate bellhousing and a slip yoke, so the Gforce retains that bolt pattern and improved the slip yoke to a larger, hardened output.
Why does that matter? Because it brings cost down. No racing transmission is produced more than the American H-pattern dogbox. This means they cost -half- of what others cost yet last much longer due to those decades of development on dragracing, NASCAR , Baja and drifting.
We take these units apart after clients run them for a much as 8 seasons and only replace a few dogrings. Which are separate from the gearsets.
We also used many other brands, from sequentials that cost 30k developed for roadcar racing, to the lower end sequentials promising "1000hp" but twisting input shafts, breaking dogs and gears, leaking and misshifting on already 450whp. Roadcar transmissions can be great, but you can never shift them anywhere near the shifting speed of a dogbox. If you look at economics, roadcar transmissions with upgrades end up costing almost the same as a new dog box, and you still have a 2001 junkyard part.
We like sure things. We like brand new, custom ratio, Einzel spec H-pattern gearboxes that take 2000Nm no problem and shift like a dream. Come to our shop and feel the difference yourself.
